“Being confronted with multiple challenges during the Great Siege of Pasaana in 13 ABY, Imperial Air Command contracted the Sienar Fleet Corporation to develop a new Reconnaissance aircraft that was tailored to air to ground missions in order to regain air superiority in the troubled desert regions. Existing TIE models at the time were primarily designed for orbital and space focused deployments and were unfit for the long and dangerous ground scouting missions required during the siege.
To combat the increasing thread of improved ground to air missile attacks from insurgent groups scattered around the planet, the TIE/APR was fitted with strong shield generators and specially developed solar collectors that allowed the ship to gather sufficient energy even when the sun was covered by the vast desert storms found on Pasaana.
Furthermore, the ship was equipped with four high power Turbolaser cannons within the wing cutouts allowing for continuous attack runs on the fortified hideouts within the desert mountaintops.
The TIE/APR remained a rare sight within the Imperial fleet and never managed to find wide spread adoption after order was restored on Pasaana.”
